Study in Sculpture

Inspired by a Tate Modern workshop on The Making of Rodin exhibition run by Luisa-Maria MacCormack, Esther explores movement and light in sculpture. Her process starts in the gallery with lots of quick charcoal sketches capturing the tension and freedom of the sculpture. From these sketches, she paints tonal acrylic studies which unites the light and physicality of sculpture with the texture and free flowing form of a charcoal sketch. Starting with Auguste Rodin, this series has also looked at the work of Henry Moore and Alberto Giacometti. Following this work, Esther embarked on creating her own sculpture and developing painted pieces which reflect these – stay tuned for more information soon!
