Paris Skyscape II was inspired by the lead roofs and white washed walls of the urban parisien space.Painted in December 2021 with acrylic on canvas (81 x 100 cm).
‘Paris Skyscape II followed a more representative piece (Paris Skyscape I) which was sketched in un Grain Décalé on the Rue Vavin and then painted in my studio in the 14th Arr. I love looking up in Paris, the abundance of plants and trees on almost every balcony makes the urban space feel almost like a jungle canopy. The green of the balconies and the red clay of the chimney pots strike through the synthetic texture of the whitewash and lead roof tiles creating a wonderful feeling of joy amongst the urbane. In this piece I used a mixture of soft and harsh lines, and thickly textured and thinly applied paint to emphasise the depth and variety of the city-scape.’
